Let’s
take up an imaginary situation: While on
a hiking trip, you stumble upon a rock and trip from the mountain; you are badly
bruised, have broken jaw line and even lost some of your teeth.
More
than the physical injuries, the mental agony of a deformed face becomes
unbearable. The bruises, with time, heal; even the jaw-line can be mended with
the corrective surgeries. But, the problem that nags people is about missing
teeth.
This
problem of missing, chipped or broken teeth now has a solution – Dental
Implants at Virginia Beach !
Nowadays,
dental implants are becoming quite popular, as it is seen as one of the most permanent
and stable solution for tooth loss. They look and give a feeling that of
natural teeth.
It
is a method where an artificial tooth is anchored surgically into the gums to
provide a grip to the replacement tooth or bridge at the right place. One of the
major benefits of this implant is that they do not really rely on the
neighboring tooth to get support and in a way are stable.
Usually,
the material used to make this implant is metallic and bone-like ceramic stuff
that can be easily adapted by the body tissue. Therefore, it will not hurt you or make you
feel any different; it will be as if you are having your natural dental sets!
This
question usually come up as to who can get the dental implants? – Well, anyone
who has been suffering with tooth loss can get it. However, it is always
advisable that a dentist is consulted beforehand to ensure that your bones and
gums are healthy enough to hold on the implants. Moreover, people who are not
able to wear dentures can also go for it.
However,
if you are smoker or an alcoholic the chances of success of the implants come
down drastically.
A
typical question which constantly bothers people is which type of dental
implants is safe or suitable for using. American Dental Association have listed
down two types of implants as safe to us.
Endosteal
implants: These are implanted directly within the jawbone
through a surgery. While the gum tissue surrounding it gets healed, a second
surgery is performed to join a post to the original one. Eventually, an
artificial tooth (or teeth) is connected to this post; either individually, or is
grouped with a bridge or denture.
Subperiosteal
implants: This type consists of a metal frame which is fitted in
the jawbone below the gum tissue. When gums heal, the frame gets fixed with the
jawbone. The posts, which are fixed to the frame, grow through the gums; and as
with the endosteal implants, an artificial tooth (or teeth) is then mounted on the
posts.
In
short, if an accident leaves you with broken, chipped or damaged teeth; you still
have the hope to get back the ever-shining smile again.
